Join members and teachers from the Ohara School Chicago Chapter for an evening of ikebana demonstration at the Nineteenth Century Club. Ikebana is the Japanese style of flower arrangement, where different schools practice distinctive approaches. The presentation is a preview a special weekend presentation of the Ohara School’s work in the Playroom of the Home and Studio, where any visitors who take the tour of the house will see these flower arrangements on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11.

This journey begins in Rome with a private tour of Paolo Portoghesi’s Casa Baldi, an important example of Italian postwar architecture. Then, we proceed to the great city of Florence and the green and golden hills of Tuscany, visiting Fiesole and the Chianti wine region. Stay at historic hotels and enjoy curator-led tours, Roman and Tuscan cuisine, and breathtaking scenery on this Autumnal journey to Italy.

Join Tom Drebenstedt—a Natural Area steward for Chicago Park District, lover of Humboldt Park, and Frank Lloyd Wright Trust volunteer—on a walking tour of Columbus Park, where early 20th century landscape designer Jens Jensen set out to cultivate appreciation for the plants, topography, and vistas of the northern Illinois prairie for city-dwellers. The route is approximately 3/4 mile, but the terrain is hilly with uneven surfaces of flagstone and lawn, wear appropriate shoes.

The group will meet and end at Columbus Park Refectory, open porch, 5701 West Jackson.
