William H. Winslow House (Frank Lloyd Wright, 1894) River Forest, IL
After leaving Adler & Sullivan, the Winslow House launched Wright’s independent career. The façade’s simplicity, with its horizontal bands and hipped roof with deep overhangs, foretells Wright’s mature Prairie style. The home’s interior evokes the Arts and Crafts movement in its art glass and woodwork, starting with the central reception hall, complete with arcade and inglenook. Six original windows that had been removed at one time have been re-installed in the living room bay. A fireplace set on a low platform occupies the center of the house, underlining the theme of hearth and home. A library and living room are located on either side of the entrance with a large dining room in the back.
Peter A. Beachy House (Frank Lloyd Wright, 1906), Oak Park, IL
This stately home is on one of the largest residential privately-owned lots in Oak Park. It is an exquisite, authentically restored Wright Prairie home with massive fireplaces and built-in cherry wood cabinetry. The house features gabled roofs and is finished in red brick on its first story and stucco with dark wood trim on its upper level. Few homes offer such a warm, inviting and gracious atmosphere. Enjoy a memorable evening with delectable cuisine, soft-glowing chevron-shaped lights and a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor architectural designs.
Arthur B. Heurtley House (Frank Lloyd Wright, 1902), Oak Park, IL
Widely acknowledged as a masterpiece – also a National Historic Landmark -- the Arthur B. Heurtley House was designed for Wright’s neighbor. At the heart of the home, a substantial arched fireplace occupies a central position in the living room, echoing the prominent arch on the exterior of the building. Leaded glass windows flood the main living spaces with light. An open-air elevated porch, accessed via French doors in the living room, blurs the division between interior and exterior space. The Heurtley House represents Wright’s classic Prairie style in full bloom, an unforgettable setting for a dining experience.
Chef Gale Gand
James Beard Award-winning pastry chef, Food Network television host and Frank Lloyd Wright fan Gale Gand will prepare the exquisite dinner. Truly a star chef, Gale has been inducted to the Chicago Chefs Hall of Fame, authored eight cook books and teaches cooking classes all over the country. She is co-owner of the Chicago restaurants Spritz Burger and the Michelin-starred, Tru.
Chef Melissa Elsmo
A trained chef and ardent foodie, Melissa Elsmo’s passion for a good meal peppers her life. As part of Chicago’s underground supper club scene, she creates intimate 12-course dining experiences featuring her own recipes and artful approach to plating. Guests wait months for a seat around her table, but savvy food lovers can often locate her at pop-up events around the city. She is a regular food columnist for The Chicago Tribune.
Chef Dave Esau
Award-winning chef Dave Esau honed his culinary skills in the kitchens at Chicago’s Ritz Carlton, Le Titi de Paris, Charlie Trotter's, and Kohler Wisconsin’s The American Club. The French flair in his cuisine originated during his studies with Michelin chef Michel Chabron in Lyon, France. He owns Dave Specialty Foods in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, hosting cooking classes and catering special events.
